Parma makes history: back in Serie A after three successive promotions

May 21, 2018

In the 1990’s, Parma were one of Italy’s top sides, winning 4 European titles and 3 Italian Cups, with managers like Carlo Ancelotti and Claudio Ranieri and teams featuring the likes of Gianluigi Buffon, Lilian Thuram, Gianfranco Zola, Hidetoshi Nakata, Fabio Cannavaro, and Hernan Crespo.

However, success came at a cost with the club relegated to Serie D in 2015 after going bust before they clawed their way back up the divisions.

Now Parma becomes the first Italian team in history to earn three straight promotions, returning to Serie A three years after sealing second place behind Empoli in Serie B after a 2-0 win at Spezia while rivals Frosinone could only draw 2-2 against Foggia.
